Privacy Policy

Contractor Tech Academy is a reading site. We have deliberately kept it simple, and this policy describes what actually happens — not what a template says might happen.

What we don't do

• We do not run advertising scripts or ad networks.
• We do not sell, rent, or share personal information.
• We do not build advertising profiles or track you across other sites.
• We do not ask you to create an account to read anything.

Analytics and session replay

We use Google Analytics to count visits and see which pages are read, and Microsoft Clarity to understand how people use the site — which pages get read, where visitors click, and where a page confuses people. Clarity records how you interact with pages, including mouse movement, scrolling, and clicks, and can replay that interaction as an anonymised session recording. We use it to improve the site, and for nothing else.

Both set their own cookies to tell one visit from another. Microsoft processes Clarity data as described in the Microsoft Privacy Statement, and Google processes Analytics data as described in the Google Privacy Policy. Clarity masks text input by default, so what you type into a form is not captured in a recording. We do not use Clarity data to identify you, and we do not combine it with anything else.

If you would rather not be included, Clarity honours your browser's Global Privacy Control signal, and any browser setting or extension that blocks analytics scripts will stop it loading. Blocking it does not affect anything you can read or do here.

Cookies

We set no cookies of our own. The analytics described above set cookies from Microsoft Clarity and Google Analytics, and embedded YouTube videos may set cookies from Google when you play them. Blocking either in your browser leaves the site fully usable.

Hosting and server logs

The site is static files served from Amazon Web Services (S3 and CloudFront). As with any web host, AWS processes the technical details required to deliver a page to you — your IP address, the page requested, your browser's user agent, and the time of the request. We use this only to keep the site running and secure. We do not use it to identify you.

Email

If you email us at hello@contractortechacademy.org, we keep that message so we can reply. Nothing more.

The newsletter signup form on this site is not yet connected to an email provider. Submitting it does not store your address anywhere. When we do connect it, this page will be updated to name the provider and say what they receive, before the form starts collecting anything.

Links and embedded video

Articles link to third-party sites, and some pages may embed videos from our YouTube channel. Those services have their own privacy policies and we do not control them. An embedded YouTube player may be loaded by your browser directly from Google.

Our use of Google and YouTube data

We publish videos to our own YouTube channel using the YouTube Data API. This is worth being precise about:

• The access is to our own channel only, authorised once by us as the channel owner, so that videos we produce can be uploaded automatically.
• We do not request, receive, access, or store any Google account data belonging to visitors, viewers, or subscribers.
• The authorisation token is held as an encrypted secret in our deployment system and used only to upload videos and their thumbnails and metadata. It is not shared with anyone and is not used for any other purpose.
• We do not use Google user data for advertising, and we do not transfer it to third parties, human beings, or AI models.

Our use of information received from Google APIs adheres to the Google API Services User Data Policy, including the Limited Use requirements. Using YouTube also means you are bound by the YouTube Terms of Service, and you can review Google's Privacy Policy.

How our videos are made

We think you should know this even though it is not strictly a privacy matter. Our articles are drafted with AI assistance and our video narration is synthesised rather than recorded by a microphone. The research, the figures, and the editorial judgement behind them are ours. Videos are labelled as containing synthetic media when uploaded, as YouTube requires.

Children

This site is aimed at people running a business. It is not directed at children, and we do not knowingly collect information from them.

Your rights

Because we hold almost nothing about you, there is usually nothing to export or delete. If you have emailed us and want that correspondence removed, write to hello@contractortechacademy.org and we will delete it.

Changes

If this policy changes, the date at the top changes with it. Material changes to what we collect will be described here before they take effect.
