🧱 Masonry & Concrete Schools

Masonry and concrete programmes teach block and brick laying, mortar, flatwork, forming, reinforcement, and finishing. It is physically demanding work with a genuine craft ceiling, and the supply of trained people is thin enough that competent masons stay busy.

How people actually get in

Few schools offer it, so the apprenticeship route dominates. Where a programme exists it is usually short and practical. The economics favour getting on a crew early; the craft end — restoration, decorative, and architectural work — rewards years rather than certificates.

Ask before you enrol

  • Confirm you will lay real units in real mortar at volume, not a demonstration wall.
  • Ask about flatwork and finishing specifically if concrete is your interest — it is a different skill from laying block.
  • Check the local union or contractor apprenticeship first; masonry programmes are scarce and apprenticeships pay.
